Canadian Red Rhubarb is a vigorous growing perennial that produces large stems colored deep red to bright green. Rhubarb will grow in a variety of locations in your yard, preferring a sunny spot, but can handle some shade if required. Harvest of stalks should be limited in the first year after planting, but in subsequent years, regular spot harvesting of stalks will be possible and beneficial. This variety of rhubarb is sweeter than others, requiring less refined sugars to make those pies and other goodies associated with rhubarb.
For gardeners not interested in rhubarb as a food crop, it also makes an excellent feature for texture and color in a perennial bed with it's large leaves and colored stalks.
