The glossy, heart-shaped leaves of the philodendron make it a popular houseplant. Native to tropical jungles where it grows under the canopy, it prefers humid, low light conditions. Keep your plant evenly moist, but do not overwater to prevent root rot. Often a vigorous grower, keeping it cut back will encourage a nicer shape, and new plants are easily rooted from cuttings.
